Can anyone explain this?

How are planted adhesives used to tap info?...pranab mukherji complained of a security breach in his office stating that planted adhesives were found at different locations in his office...during the watergate scandal too tapes were found on latches of doors to indicate possibilities of being spied on....i do not get the mechanism of the whole thing.
