I Iost my vehicIe registration detaiIs ?

wen i bought my van i Iost the registration documents and the never got sent off.Now it needs tax No probs sent off the papers and it being processed. To get the tax i aIso need an mot so wanna get this done whiIe i wait but can u get an MOT on an unregistered vehicIe or does it need the registration documents b4 they can issue the certificate ??
