What to do about Non-Moving violation ticket in Court?

Do to financial issues when I bought my car several months ago I couldn't afford getting it registered then the new year came and I couldn't afford to get the un-registered plates renewed...So the other day I was driving and for the first time got pulled over and got a ticket for unregistered plates and unrenewed plates. I still can't afford to get it renewed or registered or pay for my tickets at the moments. Luckily I just got a really nice job...but I don't want to go to jail.... I was wondering if I could go to court on my court date and ask for an extension to pay the tickets due to the job I just got. Are you aloud to do this and what should I do? Any help or advice would be super helpful.
