Why are the Patriots one of the most hated teams in the NFL?

All I can think of is the cheating scandal. Yeah, I admit that Bill Belichick made a huge mistake during a game, but that was just one instance. Not to mention, there can be other teams doing the same thing for all we know. During the 2001 superbowl, the Pats actually were a well liked team, but after they got some success they got a huge amount of haters. Some may say it's jealousy, but the Packers have the most successful franchise, yet they dont' nearly have the same amount of haters. As a Patriots fan, it annoys me when people rant about the Patriots and state how they still cheat. Can you guys fill me in on this?
