In FL, can I use an unregistered boat with proof of ownership?

I just bought a boat and don't have the money to register it right away...it is my understanding that I can use the boat for 30 days without registering it as long as I have the title in my name and have the proof of purchase. but before the 30 days is over I have to register it or I pay a small penalty correct?
